We had a bit of a scare this morning...

We had a bit of a scare this morning. We were sound asleep and heard a noise around 6:15 am. It sounded like popcorn popping to me. Balto, our biggest dog and the only one who barks at noises, barked and Tim jumped out of bed thinking someone was breaking into the house.

I laid in bed listening to see if there was a reason for me to get up and then I just heard Tim making these little strange sighing noises. So, then I jumped out of bed and ran out and found Tim on the floor with Kobe, the dog we got a few months ago. Kobe was frothing at the mouth, he had lost control of his bowels, and his legs were thrashing about. His heart was beating wildly and he was burning up. We didn't know what was going on. He's always getting into something so we were worried he had gotten into something bad. Whatever it was, it looked bad and we thought he was going to die.

The "popcorn" noise I heard was his paws smacking up against a plastic laundry basket he was lying next to. We had no idea how long he had been like this since we had been asleep, but at this point we knew it had been several minutes so Tim scooped him up and headed to the Emergency Vet. It was a little too reminiscent of the morning we had to take Winter to the vet early one morning and have her put down.

I called the vet and let them know he was on his way and I woke up JT and we got dressed and headed to the vet too. I was sure we were going to tell Kobe goodbye. Half way there Tim called and said that Kobe had snapped out of it halfway to the vet's office. By the time I got to the Vet's office, Kobe was pacing the floor but clearly a bit out of it.

After consulting with the doctor, it was decided that he had some sort of seizure. To our knowledge, he had never had one before, but we've only had him less than 4 months. The vet checked him over and everything seemed normal. We were told to take him home and keep a record of any seizures he has and how long they last. He said he could start having them regularly or he may never have another one. If he starts to have them regularly, then he'll look at giving him meds. To be honest, I hope we never have to experience him having another seizure.

He's been pretty tired today as we would expect after such an expenditure of energy during he seizure but he's been "okay". He seems back to normal now after spending some time a little out of it.

We are just thankful that he's okay because we really thought he wouldn't be coming home with us.

We have a new addition to the family!

Tim has really wanted to add another dog to the family for awhile. I didn't plan on it being NOW though. Today we were on our way to Pet Smart to buy our dog Balto a new choke chain and to go for a walk in the park. We saw a sign for rabies shots at another pet store so we turned to see if it was today since Balto is due. It wasn't today, but we were near the Dog adoption agency so we stopped in. We took a couple of different dogs out to meet Balto and the 2nd one seemed a good fit. Before we knew it, we were the proud parents of a new dog.

We never got the choke chain and we never made it to the park.

So, without further ado, let me introduce to you Kobe Tikanni Tungett....

Goodbye Winter

Just two months ago we said goodbye to Elkei. Sadly, this weekend we had to say goodbye to Winter as well. Everything seemed fine on Saturday morning when she woke Tim up to go outside. She was 17 years old and she had definitely slowed down, but we never expected this at this time.

We left or a few hours Saturday night and returned home that night and found her lying on the floor totally unresponsive. She would try to lift her head but couldn't and her breathing seemed labored. Fortunately, she didn't seem to be in any pain.

Tim put her by his bed and watched her throughout the night. Finally, at about 5 o'clock Sunday morning she had gotten worse and we couldn't stand to see her like that anymore. So, Tim made the decision to take her to the vet and have her put to sleep. We were fortunate to find out that the same vet we already used also was an Emergency vet with a Dr. in house 24 hours. Sunday morning around 6:30 we said our final goodbye to "Wee-Wee".

Hopefully, Elkei was there to greet her when she crossed over and they are running around playing and having fun again.

We love and miss you Winter and especially miss you and the way you "talked" to us!

Goodbye Elkei

Two weeks ago, we said Goodbye to Elkei. Elkei was a great dog and at 16 years old had lived a good life. However, the quality of her life had been going downhill for quite some time. It was a hard decision, but we made plans to put her to sleep. It was hard on her "sister" Winter since she had been her lifelong companion too and she wandered the house for about a week looking for her.

Of course, it was hard on all of us and we still have a void in the house without her. These photos were taken the day before she left us.

You were a good dog Elkei, and we all miss you greatly!

JT's first fish!

Posted by Picasa
We went to visit Jenny at the lake in Melrose where she's now living and JT had a blast. First he went for a swim in the lake, although he was a little creeped out about it. Then Jenny took him on a ride on a 4-wheeler (another first!). He had an absolute blast doing that. Then she brought him back to the dock and he fished for a while. He ended up catching 3 fish. 2 bream and a shiner. Needless to say, this was very exciting for him since he had never caught a fish before. He was afraid of it though and Jenny had to take it off the hook and he wouldn't let her put the fish near him without squealing like a little girl. :)

Anyway, it was a fun day for him and he can't wait to go back and visit Jenny again!
